Statement from the National Rebirth Party on the Spring Budget:

The main purpose of any scrutiny of the budget must be to address any underlying faults with the economic principles on display. There is no way of accurately assessing the accuracy of the figures contained within it, when nobody other than the Treasury or the opposition has access to all the data used to come to those figures. There is also no point in scrutinising particular spending for particular reasons, when, again, without consulting all of the evidence used to come to those conclusions (which would take multiple months), there is no way of making an accurate assessment.

Therefore, the principal things to be scrutinised are the underlying economic principles.

The latest budget follows the same trend as the last 20 or 30 years (or more) of increased spending yet increased debt, increased taxation yet poorer quality public services, and a financial situation which is almost wholly dependent on market forces that the government has few mechanisms to influence or control.

None of the major parties, or, as far as we are aware, any of the minor parties, would be capable of producing a better budget free from these problems, because they do not offer any kind of alternative economic system to the one which is already in place. The problems of ever-increasing spending and debt, ever worsening value for money with taxation, and ever more uncertainty with the economy, are the inevitable consequences of an international, free-market, liberal economic system which caters to International Finance and nobody else.

The National Agenda proposes that in place of this system we instead promote a true National Economy in which the ultimate goals are:

  • To keep British capital in Britain

  • To foster the development of national industries and businesses, if necessary by trade protectionism and market controls

  • To give every citizen the opportunity to be economically productive, for their own benefit and for the benefit of society

  • To prevent both creation of debt and inflation as far as possible

  • An international economic agenda (trade) based solely on national interest

  • To manage our production to reduce dependency on imports as far as practical

  • To actively assist the development of private enterprises that advance National economic goals (a centrally directed economy).

These principles of National Economy, when combined with our other proposed reforms to the organisation and powers of the central government, organisation of the labour force, organisation of public services, and organisation of the tax system, would combine to achieve the following:

  • Better value for money with public services. Even if tax rates increased, the quality of the services would increase by an even greater margin

  • Nationalisation of utilities and services, and national investment and part control of key industries

  • More opportunities for British entrepreneurs to create wealth, whilst being protected from foreign competitors

  • A general trend of reindustrialisation and re-employment of huge numbers of our people who have been trapped in states of underemployment and dependency.

  • Less dependence on foreign economies to keep our own solvent, which gives our people greater autonomy

  • Less unpredictability and uncertainty in the economy, especially with regards to inflation and debt, which makes investment easier and makes all risks predictable as opposed to random.

  • Better quality of life for working people, with better prospects for employment, skill development, and wealth creation

The National Rebirth Party is, as far as we are aware, the only political party in Britain that offers a vision of this kind for a genuine National Economy.

The reshaping of our economy in line with our vision for a genuine National Community is a part of our agenda which must not be ignored, and you can read our entire National Agenda here:
